Thomas S. Ells, Ph.D, MS, MBA
Tom is currently involved in assisting non-profit organizations and is involved in new ventures that include tech start-ups to real estate development. He retired in 2015 from Johnson & Johnson where he was Vice President of R&D for Johnson & Johnson Consumer Products Company and a member of the Johnson & Johnson Innovation Center in Boston.
Previously, he was VP, R&D for McNeil Nutritionals and a member of the Company’s Global Management Board from 2005 until 2012. From 2000 to 2005 he was Vice President of Business Development for McNeil Consumer & Specialty Pharmaceuticals where he was responsible for licensing and acquisitions in the specialty pharmaceutical area.
Other roles at J&J include Research Scientist for McNeil Consumer Products Company and Johnson & Johnson*Merck developing over-the-counter pharmaceuticals and VP Business Development for Biosense Webster, a medical device company focused on electrophysiology.
Tom received a B.S. degree in chemical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, an M.S. degree in chemical engineering from Lehigh University, a Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering from West Virginia University, and an M.B.A. degree from Columbia University. He is co-holder of several patents for over-the-counter pharmaceutical technologies, has served as a member of the Leadership Council of the American Diabetes Association of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Versify, a software company focused on the power generation industry.
